How many calories are in mandi?

Mandi's only available calorie figure today isn't from a lab — it's a software estimate: about 104 kcal per 100g per Basaqr et al. (2025), produced with nutrition-estimation software (ESHA) on household recipes collected by phone, not the physical lab analysis behind our kabsa page. The estimate itself is wide: the published standard deviation runs to ±27.19, a spread of roughly 26%.

How was this number produced?

The researchers collected three household mandi recipes by phone interview, averaged them, and analyzed each sample in triplicate using ESHA Food Processor — software that estimates nutrient values by matching ingredients against a database, not by physically measuring a sample in a lab instrument. The authors state plainly that ESHA "does not account for nutrient changes due to cooking time, processing losses, or anti-nutritional factors," and that results "should be interpreted as approximate database-derived estimates," not lab-grade figures.

Software estimate vs lab analysis — why the difference matters

Our kabsa page is built on Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) lab figures, from an ISO 17025-accredited lab — meaning a physical food sample was weighed, combusted and measured on an instrument. Mandi is different: as far as we can find, no lab study has physically analyzed a mandi sample at all. Its only available figure came from costing a recipe against a nutrition database, not from a physical measurement.

That difference is the whole point of this page, not a weakness we're hiding: we say it plainly and confidently so you know exactly what kind of number you're reading, instead of pretending to a precision we don't have.

Why we can't give you a full-pot figure

There isn't one — and we're saying that outright. The Basaqr study publishes per-100g figures only, and no published source states a full-recipe weight or serving count for mandi. With no published yield to divide by, the arithmetic isn't possible — and we won't invent a number to fill the gap.

// 04

Why every app gives you a different number

Saudi menu-labelling regulation (GSO 2604) permits a tolerance of up to ±20% around a declared calorie figure — its own published example: a lasagna declared at 400 kcal can legitimately read anywhere from 320 to 480. On top of that, mandi's only figure is already a software estimate with a reported ±26% spread in its own study — so the gap you'll see between apps here is wider than for any other dish in this guide.

How many calories are in mandi?

Per Basaqr et al. 2025, mandi runs about 104.27 kcal per 100g — but that is a software estimate (ESHA) from household recipes collected by phone, not a physical lab analysis. The study's own reported standard deviation runs to ±27.19, a spread of roughly 26%.

Why isn't there a lab number for mandi like there is for kabsa?

As far as we can find, no ISO 17025 or AOAC lab study has physically analyzed a mandi sample — unlike kabsa, whose page is built on SFDA lab data. Mandi is the one dish in this guide with no laboratory figure at all.

How many calories are in a full pot of mandi?

We can't give you one — no published source states a full-recipe weight or a serving yield for mandi, so dividing by a number of people isn't mathematically possible without a published figure to divide.

Why does every app give me a different number for mandi?

Saudi menu-labelling regulation (GSO 2604) permits up to ±20% tolerance around any declared figure. On top of that, mandi's only figure is already a software estimate with a reported ±26% spread — so the gap between apps is wider here than for any other dish in this guide.
